About the Opportunity
We are seeking a talented Bridge Inspector to join BEAR Scotland's Bridges Team. This role offers the chance to contribute to the safety and maintenance of some of Scotland's most iconic bridges and structures, including the Queensferry Crossing, Forth Road Bridge, Kincardine Bridge, and Clackmannanshire Bridge.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist in the planning and delivery of BEAR Scotland's Major Bridges Inspection Programmes.
* Support the delivery of key performance indicators (KPIs) for Major Bridge Inspection Teams.
* Conduct a variety of inspections, including:
o General, Principal, and Safety Inspections
o Close & Visual, Monitoring, and Special Inspections
o Access Inspections and inspections for complex components such as bearings, cables, anchorages, and other critical elements.
* Perform detailed investigations of defects in steel, concrete, and other materials.
* Assist with access planning, equipment coordination, and resource allocation for inspections.
* Prepare detailed inspection reports, including drawings/sketches to document findings.
* Contribute to the ongoing development of the Major Bridges management system (Pearl).
* Develop Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) for major bridge activities.
* Work towards gaining Lantra Bridge Inspector Certification Scheme (BICS) Inspector and Senior Inspector qualifications.
* Undertake training in areas such as:
o Working at Height, Confined Spaces, Rescue & First Aid, and other safety protocols.
Your Skills and Experience:
* A minimum HNC qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
* The academic qualifications required to progress towards professional accreditation with a recognized engineering body, such as ICE EngTech.
* Experience in Bridge Inspection (desirable but not essential - full training will be provided).
* Lantra BICS Inspector/Senior Inspector certification (desirable, with a requirement to gain certification upon appointment).
* Knowledge of health and safety procedures within an engineering context.
* A full, current UK driving license.
* Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
* Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
* Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team.
* Willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges.
