Job summary We are looking for enthusiastic colleagues to join our Respiratory Medicine team at Good Hope Hospital. This is a fixed term post the duration of the post is 12 months with a view to extending to 24 months subject to satisfactory performance. Within UHB Trust we also provide opportunities to obtain CESR accreditation (Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) This post requires the post holder to work at Locally Employed Doctor Higher level (equivalent to ST3) within Respiratory Medicine. This includes participation on the general medical on call rota as a Medical Registrar, including nights and weekends. Our department includes inpatient beds on our Respiratory ward 24 and Respiratory Acute Care Unit (RACU), as well as General Medical outliers in Ward 2 and input into the care of other patients admitted to this site, plus outpatient activities. We provide excellent opportunities for learning and professional development. We also encourage a special interest and can facilitate training in focused ultrasound, pleural procedures and Bronchoscopy/EBUS. Main duties of the job Main Duties Daily ward rounds of our respiratory inpatients with Consultant support working 0800-1600 Monday to Friday. Practical procedures. GIM On call rota commitments- nights, long days and weekends for admissions and ward cover. Leadership & Governance The appointee will be encouraged to participate in teaching for medical students, junior doctors and nurses in the department in speciality aspects of care. Postgraduate Teaching - There is an active postgraduate teaching programme suitable to the needs of junior doctors at various levels of training. This includes departmental meetings and hospital grand rounds. The consultants conduct a daily teaching/service ward round. Participation in Quality Improvement and Governance is encouraged. Human Resources Develop and maintain a positive, focused and patient led team culture. Manage the performance of staff, through coaching and mentoring to enhance their potential and take action to improve poor performance when necessary. To have individual annual appraisals against objectives aligned to Job Plan. Review job descriptions on a regular basis to reflect changes to roles.
