Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) is Ireland’s third technological university and home to 15,000 students and a staff complement of approximately 2,000, full-time and part-time, across seven campuses in Athlone, Limerick, Thurles, Clonmel, and Ennis.
The Sustainable Development Research Institute (SDRI) builds on the extensive foundation of applied research within the TUS Thurles campus to create a Nationally and Internationally recognised centre of excellence which enables communities, enterprise and industry to contribute to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The appointee will play a key role in delivering on the ambitions of the SDRI by working with a team of researchers and support staff to secure and deliver ambitious projects, of national and international relevance, within the fields of climate action, rural development, sustainable development and sustainability in general.
The aim of the Sustainable Development Research Institute (SDRI) is to maximise the impact of TUS on the sustainable development of the region through high quality, applied research informed and aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. SDRI aims to become an exemplary of multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary research producing high quality outputs through funded R&D projects, postgraduate research and publications. SRDI aims to re-enforce TUS’s position as a leading actor in the sustainable development sector.
The Sustainable Development Research Institute (SDRI) is currently recruiting highly motivated, qualified and experienced experts to support the team of researchers and support staff to secure and deliver ambitious projects, of national and international relevance, within the fields of climate action, rural development, sustainable development and sustainability in general. * Energy and Climate Action
* Circular Economy in construction/Agriculture/ decarbonisation (LCA/CBA)
* Digitalization/ Creation and management of building information models (BIM)
* Sustainable Agriculture/Diversification
* Rural community development/Social Enterprise
* 4 years relevant post graduate experience (please detail the experience and skills you have gained through your work experience that is of relevance to this role)
* Experience of National, EU funding and other relevant programmes
* Experience and knowledge of relevant National and EU Networks within the sustainable development and sustainability fields
* Good communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills
* Commitment to gaining practical experience working on a research project
Duties:
* To build upon the existing critical mass and expertise that exists within TUS generally and within TUS Thurles and the SDRI specifically.
* To engage in research, demonstration, consultancy, and project development activities and to align this activity with the UN SDGs.
* To participate in project meetings and maintain appropriate records of the task developed as required by the Institute.
* To undertake other duties as may be agreed with the Head of Department, or other such delegate.
