NRL are currently recruiting on behalf of a manufacturing company based in Washington, Tyne and Wear for a permanent Electrical Engineering Team Lead Location: Washington, NE37 Job Type: Full-time Salary: Commensurate with experience About the Company Our client specialises in the manufacturing of bespoke low voltage (LV) switchgear, distribution boards, panel boards, transformers and containerised substations. About the Role Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer Team Lead who will work under the direction of the Engineering Manager and will be responsible for overseeing a variety of engineering projects. This role involves managing teams, delivering project solutions, and ensuring that all technical specifications are met efficiently. You will collaborate closely with estimators, engineering production teams, manufacturing, and site-based installation teams to ensure smooth project execution. In addition, this role will require expertise in CAD design, control system, and project management. Responsibilities Lead and manage the electrical engineering team in the design, development, and delivery of electrical systems for a range of projects Oversee the design and manufacture of electrical systems, ensuring compliance with specifications, standards, and regulations. Work closely with estimators to prepare accurate project cost estimates and schedules. Develop and review CAD designs and schematics for electrical LV switchgear ensuring all designs meet regulatory and safety requirements. Coordinate with manufacturing and installation teams to ensure designs are translated effectively into final products. Manage project timelines, resources, and budgets to ensure successful delivery of engineering solutions. Provide technical expertise and guidance to junior engineers and other team members. Ensure quality assurance and control standards are met at all stages of the project lifecycle. Foster a culture of safety, efficiency, and innovation within the engineering team Liaise with clients and other stakeholders, ensuring all expectations are met or exceeded. Drive continuous improvement within the electrical engineering processes and team. Oversee electrical switchgear projects from design through to installation and commissioning Coordinate with clients, contractors, suppliers and internal teams to ensure smooth project execution, including organising and attending FAT & SAT tests Provide technical support to the sales and manufacturing teams Production of technical submissions and operating and maintenance manuals Report to the Engineering Manager on a day-to-day basis updating them on the progress of projects, flagging any potential problem areas and collectively identifying a solution to address the issue Key Requirements HND in an electrical discipline essential. Bachelor’s Degree preferred but not essential Proven experience in electrical engineering, switchgear and electrical control system design Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, ETAP SEE Electrical or similar) Understanding of BS7671 wiring regulations, BS EN 61439 and IEC standards Strong understanding of electrical schematics and panel layouts Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to inspire and mentor engineers. Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to overcome technical challenges Strong communication skills, both written and verbal Project management certification (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) is an advantage Proficient in the use of electrical engineering software and tools Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to electrical engineering Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks and meet deadlines Keen attention to detail and commitment to high-quality engineering solutions.
