Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part time Band 6 Registered Nurse to join the team on the Haematology & Oncology Day Unit at Good Hope Hospital. The unit is a nurse led, and the post holder is responsible for the assessment of care needs, toxicity assessment prior to the administration of Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatments (SACT). Provide a specialist Oncology and Haematology nursing service to patients, families, carers and health professionals by demonstrating advanced clinical knowledge of the principles of the safe delivery of SACT and supportive products within an out-patient setting. Provide specialist research-based education and training, to staff caring for patients. Undertaking quality improvement initiatives such as audits, research and evidenced based practice and service development projects. In the absence of the Senior Nurse take charge of the clinical area to ensure effective operation of the department. The unit at GHH is open Monday-Friday 08.00-18.00hours. Main duties of the job Safely assess patients coming in for SACT and be confident in managing treatment related toxicities. Safely administer all routes of Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatments. Cannulation, venepuncture, venesections. Be competent in accessing Central venous access devices. Time management of the day unit and supporting junior staff. Deputise for band 7, manage sickness, complaints and staffing issues. Pre proceed treatments for the next day, making decisions on supportive treatments and escalating as needed.
