Job Overview
Due to the reconfiguration of the emergency surgical floor, the opportunity has arisen for candidates who are looking to step into healthcare for the first time, for those who are already in healthcare and want to work in a different specialty or want to work for an NHS Trust.
Healthcare Support Workers play a crucial role in all aspects of care delivery for our patients.
You will be joining a team of dedicated professionals who you will learn from on the job. We provide training to ensure you have the skills for the role and offer development opportunities to realise your career potential. You will be enrolled onto a healthcare support worker induction programme held each month, ensuring you feel supported as you take the first steps into your new career.
Candidate will need to take a 30-minute assessment test.
Main Duties of the Job
Communication with other members of the organisation and respond appropriately.
Assist with admission, transfer and discharge of patients.
Make unoccupied beds and occupied beds.
Assist patients out of bed, helping with dressing and undressing as required.
Wash/bathe patients in bed and in the bathroom.
Care of hands and feet of patients in bed.
Observe patients’ skin and report any red marks or blemishes to nursing staff in charge.
Assist with manual handling and transferring of patients complying with the Trust Moving and Handling policy.
Carry out routine ward procedures for bagging of patients’ soiled clothing and ensure relatives are made aware of the need to take away and launder.
Escort patients to the toilet.
Report faulty equipment in need of repair.
Assist with unpacking and checking of stores as required.
Report when ward stock is low.
Clean and tidy lockers and cupboards.

Person Specification
Education, Qualifications
* Secondary Education.
* Care Certificate in healthcare (Level 3).
* Level 2 or Level 3 (NVQ) in Health and Social Care or equivalent relevant experience.
Experience
* Evidence of working in a busy environment.
* Experience in a customer-focused environment.
* Previous experience in a healthcare setting.
Skills, Abilities & Knowledge
* Ability to write clearly and legibly in English.
* Ability to use a computer.
* Basic knowledge of health and safety with an awareness of the importance of following Trust policies and procedures.
* Demonstrates a caring, compassionate and empathetic approach to patients and colleagues, whilst having a professional approach.
