The weekend rota includes a full weekend every 8 weeks and a half weekend every 8 weeks. On-call support is robust, with a senior vet always available and a nurse handling phones and assisting with cases. This role is well-suited to practitioners focused on small or large animals and willing to engage in mixed work during out-of-hours shifts.
The practice features two well-equipped surgeries with digital x-ray, ultrasound, in-house lab testing, and an endoscope. Certificate holders in surgery and medicine contribute to a supportive learning environment, making this an excellent opportunity for new or recent graduates. A strong small animal medical and surgical caseload, including orthopaedics, offers an ideal pathway for those interested in pursuing a certificate. Orthopaedics is a growing area, and candidates with a keen interest in this specialty are particularly welcome.
The large animal department is well-resourced with two BCF scanners, interherd bureau for dairy fertility visits, and a Wopa crush for foot trimming. Services include bull and tup semen evaluation, and spring brings a busy schedule with large lowland and fell flocks. Minimal TB workload and the use of “My Healthy Herd” software for herd health planning further enhance the appeal for experienced large animal vets.
Equine work is also expanding, making this a great fit for candidates passionate about equine medicine and dentistry. Whether you’re looking to advance your skills in a supportive, well-equipped practice or enjoy the lifestyle that the Western Lake District has to offer, this role provides an exceptional opportunity.
