Position: SEN Support Staff (Secondary School for Pupils with Autism)
Location: Just outside of Burgess Hill
Salary: £97 per day, temp to perm
Job Type: Monday - Friday, 8:30 - 16:30
We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and skilled individual to join our team at a secondary school dedicated to supporting pupils with autism and related special educational needs. This full-time, temporary-to-permanent position offers a meaningful opportunity to make a difference in the lives of young people by fostering their educational, social, and emotional development.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide 1:1 and small group support tailored to the needs of students with autism and other communication or sensory challenges.
* Use positive behaviour support strategies to help students engage in learning and navigate social interactions.
* Develop supportive, trusting relationships with students to encourage confidence, independence, and academic growth.
* Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and external professionals to implement individualised learning and development plans.
* Encourage students’ social and emotional development, fostering a calm, inclusive, and supportive environment.
* Ensure adherence to safeguarding and school policies, maintaining a safe learning environment for all students.
What We Are Looking For:
* Experience working with children or young people with autism or in a similar SEN role.
* A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach to supporting students with unique challenges.
* Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to connect effectively with students and staff.
* Confidence in managing challenging behaviours calmly, with a focus on positive reinforcement.
* A commitment to helping young people overcome barriers to learning and achieve their potential.
* Passion for supporting the social, emotional, and educational progress of students with autism.
