Millar + Howard Workshop, (MHW), based near Stroud, Gloucestershire are looking for an enthusiastic Architectural Assistant (Part 1/Part 2) to join their team.
MHW is a tech-savvy rural practice looking to expand its current team. Recent projects include treehouses, wedding venues, work on listed buildings & eco hotel spaces. These sit alongside a solid body of crafted built work including unique one-off houses, multi-house custom build schemes, and various innovative public and commercial buildings.
MHW aims to work with the most creative and exciting minds in and around architecture. We have an agenda for culture change towards net zero, biodiversity revitalization, and the deep connection of people and place. We use innovative technology where we can to further this. To change culture, you also need to tell great stories. With an increasing range of exciting projects, we are considering people who are up for, and fantastic at, telling great stories through their architecture, and who are excited by occupying the sometimes unnerving space at the edge of innovation.
We are a busy small practice, working out of the top floor of an old listed mill building in the Stroud Valleys; a beautiful and vibrant area in the heart of the Cotswolds, voted one of the best places to live in the UK by the Times & Sunday Times.
Our office uses Vectorworks, Revit, Sketchup, Blender, and Unreal Engine.
We welcome applications from candidates:
1. With excellent design and graphical skills, including the ability to develop visuals for projects using 3D computer modelling
2. Keen to contribute to the collaborative and friendly studio culture
3. Who are enthusiastic and show initiative
4. Have good written and spoken English skills and the ability to communicate with the team, clients, and collaborators
5. Applicants must have or be working towards a RIBA Part 1 architectural qualification
6. Applicants must want to gain experience for a minimum of 1 year
In addition, Part 2 Applicants should:
1. Have experience working in a design-led practice with a passion for innovation and craft
2. Be confident working independently and taking on high levels of responsibility
3. Have a working knowledge of the UK Building Regulations and Plan of Works
4. Must have or be working towards a RIBA Part 2 architectural qualification

Salary:
* Part I's – £24,960
* Part 2's – from £26,000 depending on level of experience and qualifications
Location: The office is based in a characterful converted mill building along a canal in the Golden Valley of the beautiful Cotswolds, percolating in a rich cultural heritage of art, craft, and industry. Please note that this role is office-based and that we are in a rural location with limited public transport.
