Reporting to the Occupational Health & Wellbeing Manager, the Occupational Health Advisor will work at our Chippenham site 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday. Occasional travel to Balbriggan and for cover to other UK sites may be required. As the Occupational Health Advisor, with the assistance of the Occupational Health & Wellbeing Manager and Physician, you will be responsible for supporting the business to grow by providing a quality professional portfolio of services that best meets and matches the business requirements. The Occupational Health Service will be delivered in accordance with Company Health and Safety legislation to ensure that the health and wellbeing of all employees is maintained to the highest possible level, thus enabling all employees to work to their full potential.
Main duties and responsibilities:
1. Work closely with the HS&E team, line managers, and the People Team to provide a proactive and effective occupational health service to the business.
2. Work as an independent practitioner and provide professional specialist advice and support to the Business.
3. Conduct health assessments with referred employees and provide timely and clear advice and recommendations to line management, people team, and employees.
4. Manage surveillance and fitness to work programmes related to legislative and best practice needs such as audiology, blood lead, spirometry, night worker assessments, and other relevant types of surveillance.
5. Assist in the development of Company surveillance programmes and health/wellbeing/awareness campaigns and take full responsibility for their subsequent launch and promotion.
6. Attend and participate in operational and health and safety meetings and seek to add value in relation to occupational health issues.
7. Create reports on potential health issues, where required.
8. Conduct and participate in relevant audits, when required.
9. Support the Mental Health First Aiders when required.
10. Ensure all new employees undertake a pre-employment medical and that all leavers undergo an exit medical.
11. Participate in the creation and delivery of training sessions across a wide range of occupational health issues, as agreed with the Occupational Health & Wellbeing Manager.
12. Contribute to Company newsletters and health-related leaflets.
13. Maintain confidential medical records in line with all legal and statutory regulations.
14. Assist with the compilation of medical information for employer liability claims for release to claimants' solicitors and employer brokers and insurers.
15. Maintain and grow professional competencies, skills, and knowledge base by networking and continued professional education.
To be successful in the role you will have:
1. RGN qualification (part 1 NMC register) - Essential.
2. Recognised qualification (part 3 of NMC register) in Occupational Health at degree level or equivalent - Essential.
3. Previous participation in the creation of policies and procedures, promotion of workplace health strategies, and training experience is vital.
4. Possess a broad knowledge of health and safety legislation.
5. Up-to-date training and competence in all aspects of Health Surveillance.
6. Up-to-date knowledge of Occupational Health law.
7. Previous experience in an occupational health setting within a manufacturing environment.
8. Experience in preventing occupationally related diseases and injuries through the implementation of effective health risk management.
9. Experience in working as an independent practitioner to support managers and HR with all aspects of case management.
