Do you have an interest in ophthalmology? An exciting part-time opportunity has arisen in ophthalmic outpatients. This is a rotational post between the Eye Care Centre, Leighton Hospital, and the new surgical centre, Northwich.
Ophthalmic outpatients is an extremely busy department, caring for a wide range of patients with various conditions, reviewing approximately 4000 patients each month between clinics held at Leighton Hospital and Northwich Infirmary.
Occasional rotation to the Northwich site will be required.
Any staff nurse working within the Eye Care Centre will gain a wide range of experience, such as overseeing different specialty clinics, carrying out vision testing, children's clinics, assisting practitioners with intravitreal injections using aseptic techniques, and conducting telephone preoperative clinics.

Main duties of the job
An experienced healthcare professional competent in all aspects of care planning, who can carry out a wide range of clinical skills, including areas of specialist clinical expertise and advice within the team (e.g., infection control), by working collaboratively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families.
The post holder will also take an active part in the leadership, education, development, and supervision of the team.
Job responsibilities
This is an extremely busy department. Responsibilities include:
1. Assessing patients' vision using various techniques.
2. Assisting in a theatre clean room environment.
3. Completing diagnostic tests for patients.
4. Carrying out telephone and face-to-face preoperative assessments for cataract surgery.
5. Taking on leadership, education, and supervision of the team.
6. Leading department huddles.
7. Coordinating ophthalmic clinics on a daily basis.
8. Contributing to the ophthalmic health of all patients.
9. Involving patients/relatives/carers in the delivery of care.
10. Providing and developing a safe quality of care for patients and carers.
