Role Summary
Are you an experienced Medical Physics Expert (MPE) in Diagnostic Radiology ready to take the next steps in your career? We’re looking for a Principal Clinical Scientist to lead our Diagnostic Radiology Physics team. Ideally, you will be a Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA) within this specialty. However, for the right candidate, we are open to supporting you to gain your certification within a short timeframe.

About the Role
As our Lead Physicist for Diagnostic Radiology, you will provide leadership and management to the DRP team, liaising closely with other service leads including those within Physics, Radiology, Cardiology, and Breast Care.
Day to day, you will be managing resources across the specialty, including line management and supervision of clinical, scientific and technical colleagues. You’ll have a keen eye for performance management and will be an expert in managing risk.
The role offers the chance for the development and implementation of policies, strategies, processes and procedures, and for adopting and sharing best practice for the benefit of patients and other service users.
As a member of the Clinical & Radiation Physics team, you will work closely with colleagues in Nuclear Medicine Physics, Radiation Safety and Non-ionising Physics, as well as clinical colleagues and private customers across North, East, and South Devon. You will also be part of the wider Medical Physics team at the Royal Devon, and enjoy the benefits of well-established regional networks of experts and training centres.
You’ll have the opportunity to represent the department and the Trust at project planning, governance and strategic meetings and deputise for the Head when required.

About you
As an experienced and senior team member, you will offer innovative leadership to the department, utilising your scientific and technical expertise to benefit colleagues, patients and external customers such as the University of Exeter. Applications from candidates with experience within Non-Ionising Radiation Physics leadership are particularly welcome but not essential.
You will:
* be HCPC registered
* hold a certificate as a Medical Physics Expert (MPE) in Diagnostic Radiology
* hold a Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA) certificate or able to achieve this in a prompt timeframe
* hold a valid full UK driving licence and be happy to travel to sites as required
* have access to an appropriate vehicle to transport test equipment within the network

Our strong partnership with the University of Exeter continues with the Mireille Gillings Neuroimaging Centre for clinical research. The centre provides highly advanced PET-CT and MRI scanning facilities for research, clinical diagnosis, and therapy on the Royal Devon site. The Clinical & Radiation Physics team provide scientific services to the centre, working closely with the research teams to ensure safety, quality, and innovation.
Career development opportunities are encouraged and supported within the team. The Devon Diagnostic Centre (DDC) is part of a range of services based at the NHS Nightingale Hospital Exeter and has an innovative approach in streamlining patient pathways and reducing waiting lists, while providing exceptional patient care to patients from North, East, South and West Devon. With exciting plans to expand services, there will be opportunities to work on significant projects in collaboration with colleagues across the Trust.
