Historic Royal Palaces - Hillsborough Castle
Historic Royal Palaces are seeking a full-time Assistant Curator (Historic Buildings) to join a team of research-led curators to help deliver an ambitious programme of conservation, infrastructure, and public engagement projects at Hillsborough Castle.
This role will work collaboratively with colleagues across Historic Royal Palaces to help research and share the story of our six palaces and the people whose lives helped shape them. The special focus of this role will be researching the architectural history and archaeology of Hillsborough Castle, including Hillsborough’s Gardens, Fort, and Courthouse, and the writing of archaeological briefs, research reports, Heritage Impact Assessments, and Statements of Significance.
Who are we looking for?
You will be passionate about the archaeology and architectural history of Northern Ireland, at home working with primary sources in historic archives, and confident in your ability to communicate your knowledge to a wide variety of different audiences. We are looking for someone who has experience researching historic buildings and determining their significance. You will be comfortable working on multiple projects with competing priorities and deadlines.
This is an exciting opportunity to work in one of the most interesting buildings in the country and develop your expertise and experience working alongside a highly skilled team. The person specification provides more detail on the knowledge and experience we think will help make a candidate successful in this role. It is likely there are areas within the person specification you fit well, and those you don’t. You will be supported to learn and develop if there are some gaps in your knowledge or experience. If you think you might be a good fit for this role, we encourage you to apply.
