t’s fair to say we’ve been busy here at Virgin Money, transforming our team to help us disrupt the status quo but we’ve lot more to do if we are to grow as a digital first bank and that includes accelerating our digital agenda in a truly agile way.
You’ll be based within the Data Platform Unit within TOCS (Technology Operations and Cyber Security) & be a key member of the team responsible for supporting the bank’s UK distributed database environments, which span across a mixture of on-prem, hybrid and cloud infrastructure.
You will work to ensure the support and maintenance of the database estate is functional as required, alongside collaborating with project teams to ensure that changes are controlled effectively and safely.
To provide effective and proactive database support & maintenance of many of the bank’s critical services, which spans across multiple database technologies (predominately Oracle & SQL Server).
~ Provide database administrative support and guidance in the shape of:
~ Database lifecycle support (provisioning / deletion / patching / upgrading / migrating)
~ Monitoring and Alerting
~ Defect/Incident/Problem investigation across all environments, through to validation and resolution of database issues.
~ Collaboration with other teams and escalating where necessary to Lead Database Engineers to ensure operational issues are resolved within agreed SLAs.
Following a period of training there will also be a requirement for the successful candidate to join a 24/7 on-call rota. A strong understanding and experience of database administration (across Oracle and SQL Server) in a Production setting.
~ Experience of undertaking database builds, patching, migrations and upgrades.
~ Experience of High Availability and Disaster Recovery Methods including setup, troubleshooting and support - Oracle RAC, Oracle Restart, ASM, Oracle Data Guard & SQL Server Always on High Availability.
~ Database Performance Tuning and Optimisation skills.
~ Experience of using Oracle Enterprise Manager.
~ Oracle / Red Hat Linux, Windows, AIX, and Solaris Operating System experience.
~ ITIL Service Management awareness (Incident, Change & Problem Management processes).
It’s a bonus if you have but not essential
~ Experience of managing databases (including patching, maintenance, and support of the appliances themselves) within cloud or cloud @ customer environments (Oracle OCI, Oracle Exadata Cloud @ Customer and/or Microsoft Azure) with an awareness of emerging industry trends such as PAAS. Previous experience of working with other database technologies aside from Oracle and SQL Server.
~ Awareness of Windows Failover Clustering.
~ Knowledge of the full software development lifecycle: from business/systems analysis, through requirements gathering and functional specification authoring, to development, testing and delivery.
~ Experience of Dell Data Domain Boost.
