Are you passionate about supporting children with SEMH needs and making a real difference in their lives?
Long Term Futures are seeking a patient and skilled behaviour mentor to provide 1:1 support for a Year 6 pupil with SEMH needs who can become dysregulated frequently. This role involves working closely with teachers to create a nurturing, structured learning environment, helping the pupil regulate emotions and engage positively in school life.
This long-term role has the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.
The role:
- Support a Year 6 pupil with challenging behaviour and SEMH needs on a 1:1 basis.
- Implement strong behaviour management strategies to promote engagement and emotional regulation.
- Provide nurture-based activities and structured learning inside and outside the classroom.
- Act as a positive role model, demonstrating appropriate social and emotional skills.
- Collaborate with teachers, the SENCO, and external professionals to implement the pupil's EHCP strategies.
- Assist in the development and implementation of individual behaviour support plans.
The ideal candidate:
- Experience working in a primary school, ideally Key Stage 2.
- Strong behaviour management skills with experience supporting children with SEMH and SEN needs.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed approaches, emotion coaching, and de-escalation techniques.
- Understanding of attachment difficulties and experience working with looked-after children (LAC) is desirable.
- Team Teach training or similar behaviour management qualifications are advantageous.
- A Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable but not essential.
