We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Estate Gardener to join a small and friendly team responsible for maintaining a private country estate near Kingsclere, North Hampshire. The successful candidates will assist in the upkeep and development of a newly established garden under the guidance of an experienced, creative, and pragmatic Head Gardener. This role encompasses all aspects of gardening, greenhouse management, and the care of woodland and parkland areas.
Set within 160-acres of picturesque parkland, pasture, and woodland, the estate is centered around a stunning Grade II listed property, which is beautifully framed by four acres of meticulously maintained pleasure grounds. The gardens, which have undergone significant investment, showcase extensive perennial borders, flourishing orchards, formal lawns, and neatly clipped beech hedges, as well as a charming pool garden. Additionally, the estate features a productive kitchen garden that cultivates a diverse range of fruits and vegetables, supported by fruit cages and a spacious greenhouse.
The Estate Gardener will play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of the garden, focusing on both the ongoing maintenance of established landscapes and nurturing younger plantings. The work will involve:
1. Lawn cutting and maintenance
2. Pruning trees and shrubs
3. Managing flower borders and vegetable gardens
4. Greenhouse management
5. Leaf clearance
6. Watering and caring for plants and trees
7. Pest control
8. Assisting the head gardener with other tasks as needed
We are looking for trustworthy and dedicated individuals who take pride in horticulture and enjoy working collaboratively. Candidates must be flexible and willing to adapt as the team establishes new procedures. Creativity and proactive suggestions for improving the efficiency and functionality of the garden will be highly valued. Applicants should possess a strong passion for horticulture and relevant gardening experience, including working in varying weather conditions. A valid driver’s license is essential due to the location of the property. Training or qualifications in Health and Safety, COSHH, chainsaw operation, PA1 & 6 spray handling, and ATV/tractor operation are desirable but not essential, as training can be supported. Please note the role may also require the ability to work at heights.
This full-time position, with the work schedule primarily being Monday to Friday 7:30am-4:30pm, with occasional weekend work compensated by days off in lieu. All PPE is provided as well as a recently installed gardeners mess which includes a fully functioning kitchen, shower room as well as a workshop for tool maintenance.

The successful candidate will be offered subject to extensive reference checks; please note that a DBS check is also required.
