Are you looking to join an exciting company that is currently expanding and operates nationally?
Do you have a background in Transport and Logistics Operations, personnel management, and overseeing costs and budget?
To effectively lead the Road Logistics Department to ensure that the business objectives, including cost, service, and safety, are met whilst adhering to all regulatory and legal requirements. Develop and implement an appropriate road and rail logistics strategy that meets the above objectives. The department comprises a fleet of 80-100 internally owned and operated HGV vehicles, supplemented by a large number of external haulier contractors. There is an office of around 10 logistics planners. In total, around (Apply online only) movements a day are planned and executed.
Your duties will include:
* Develop and implement an effective and efficient road and rail logistics strategy that aligns with the business requirements.
* Lead the Road Transport Department to ensure staff are aligned to the department's and the business objectives.
* Overall accountability for the legal and regulatory requirements of the HGV fleet of around 100 vehicles.
* Assess the medium and long-term business road and rail logistics needs and adapt the operating model accordingly to ensure business requirements are met whilst balancing cost and service levels appropriately.
* Manage and engage key third-party logistics contractors to supplement the fleet and ensure business needs are met whilst balancing cost and service levels appropriately.
* Provide clear direction, motivation, and leadership to the team by creating a positive and collaborative culture in line with the company values.
* Implement and manage an effective safety, health, and environment programme in the Road Logistics Department in line with Business HSE strategy.
* Overall responsibility for around (Apply online only) logistics movements per day and an annual cost budget of GBP20-25m.
* Perform such other duties as the Company may from time to time reasonably require.
* Comply with all Company policies related to Code of Conduct, Environmental, Health and Safety, and Community.
Minimum Requirements:
* Experience in working with internal/external stakeholders.
* Experience of working in a unionised industry would be desirable.
Skills:
* 5+ years of senior logistics management experience.
* Proven logistics management, including knowledge of best practice techniques.
* Experience of transport compliance is essential.
* Strong commercial and business acumen.
* Strong EHS knowledge and awareness.
* Proven experience of various modes of transport including RoRo, Skips, Arctics & trains is essential.
* Good knowledge of road transport legislation.
* Must hold a Transport Management CPC qualification.
Salary: GBP70,000 - GBP80,000 + Company Car / Car Allowance
