Job Description
As the Wind Converter Upgrades Engineer, your role will be to carry out modernization work on wind turbine converter systems. You will venture to client sites as a member of a cross-functional team carrying out upgrades. Although the main focus will be on upgrading existing wind converters, this role sits within the service organisation and there may be a requirement to work on other types of upgrade projects. Typical scope of these projects includes Medium Voltage & Low Voltage converters, motors, transformers, E-house, switchgear, and control, as well as the associated power systems engineering.
This role you will focus on:
* Designing, commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, and remotely diagnosing wind turbine converters and associated power equipment.
* Performing troubleshooting activities at site locations to diagnose problems, determine appropriate resolutions, and implement corrective actions.
* Utilizing internal software to write PLC/converter code using industry-standard function blocks.
* Marking up and reviewing AutoCAD and EPLAN drawings.
* Setting up hardware in a lab environment and demonstrating Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) to both internal and external customers.
* Communicating progress of projects to the engineering management team.
* This role combines office work with domestic and international travel (5-10% of work time spent traveling).
We are looking for a committed and professional individual with:
* A relevant degree (minimum HNC, HND, BEng, or BSc) in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualifications, or some experience in an industrial electrical engineering environment.
* Basic knowledge of PLC programming principles.
* An understanding of power conversion principles for wind turbine converters.
* An aptitude for learning and development in their role in an ever-evolving branch of technology (growth mindset).
What will make you stand out:
* Solid experience in heavy industry environments, particularly in wind energy.
* Knowledge of integrated control schemes with switchgear, protection, PLCs, HMIs, and converters.
* Experience in commissioning wind turbine converter systems.
* Power systems experience with relation to transformers and switchgear.
