About the job Job summary Strategic Command is part of the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and is one of 4 Front Line Commands (FLCs) the others being Navy, Air and Army. The Strategic Command Commercial Team are responsible for working closely with their military and civilian colleagues across the UK to deliver innovative commercial solutions to Defence requirements. We play a vital role in supporting Defence by contracting a diverse portfolio of requirements ranging in value and complexity from long term commitments in specialist capability areas to low value short term support contracts from a wide and varied supply-base. The Strategic Command Commercial Team is comprised of around 100 qualified commercial personnel across several UK and overseas locations who place around 200 contracts a year and manage £4.5bn worth of contracts. This role is embedded within the Strategic Command Commercial Defence Intelligence (DI) team. This team manages a vast range of procurement projects, supports delivery of effective commercial contracts and provides commercial advice and support to a diverse customer base across DI. Job description This role offers a great opportunity to work in an environment offering a diverse range of projects that build commercial skills and experience in both sourcing and contract management activities. The successful candidate will work on a range of projects and procurement spanning all stages of the procurement lifecycle for diverse requirements in support of the Strategic Command DI community. In this role you will get the opportunity to: Assist in the development of procurement strategies on single source or competitive routes. Assist in the development of robust commercial strategies that will deliver effective contractual solutions, manage commercial risk, and provide the best possible value for money. Develop tender documentation and lead/support in tender activity. Lead on Contract Management to ensure our contracts deliver the required outputs, negotiating contract amendments and pricing when needed. Contribute to the commercial community by sharing best practice and LFE, actively seeking out opportunities to support the development of commercial skills both within the function and in the wider business. Engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders in a timely and appropriate manner, providing specialist commercial advice and support to customers. Provide support to the customer with contract administration and amendments including the raising of purchase orders, contract agreements and the on-boarding of new suppliers. If successful, you will be supported to undertake a Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) qualification at Level 4 if not already held. Person specification We are seeking a motivated individual who is proactive, able to use efficient time management, and has excellent organisational skills. You will have good technical/IT knowledge with the ability to learn how to use the MoD Systems, and to understand the legal and regulatory framework within which the Department operates. You should be a self-starter, an effective communicator and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Good communication and people skills, verbal and written are essential.
