About the Role
As the Director for the EU and UK, you will be a part of the Government, Regulatory & Sustainability team that works to develop, advocate for, and comply with policies and regulations to support the commercialization of LanzaJet’s alcohol-to-jet technology. This position will lead LanzaJet’s policy and regulatory engagement in the EU and UK and report to LanzaJet’s Vice President of Government Affairs, Policy, and Sustainability.
Responsibilities
* Represent LanzaJet before EU, Member State, and UK government regulators and elected officials and coordinate LanzaJet’s public policy advocacy on issues relating to sustainable aviation fuel/low carbon fuels policy, aviation decarbonization.
* Act as LanzaJet’s internal subject matter expert on government programs critical to LanzaJet’s business, including ReFuelEU, the Renewable Energy Directive, the European Emissions Trading System, the UK SAF Mandate, and the UK Renewable Fuels Transport Obligation.
* Proactively develop policy proposals that are supportive of the commercialization of the alcohol-to-jet industry in Europe and the UK.
* Act as LanzaJet’s representative with EU and UK-based trade associations focused on low carbon fuels and aviation decarbonization.
* Build and participate in formal and informal stakeholder coalitions on low carbon fuels and aviation policy.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate policy insights and recommendations into business models.
* Monitor EU and UK funding mechanisms, including grant programs, and assist LanzaJet Finance and Business organizations in securing grant funding or other financial support.
* Assist LanzaJet global policy team in other jurisdictions as needed, including multilateral forums such as the International Civil Aviation Organization, UNFCCC, G20, etc.
Requirements
* Knowledge of EU and UK regulatory programs covering low carbon fuels and aviation, including ReFuelEU, the Renewable Energy Directive, the European Emissions Trading System, the UK SAF Mandate, and the UK Renewable Fuels Transport Obligation (or similar programs in another industry).
* Experience working with complex regulatory programs and understanding of functioning of key EU and/or UK agencies and regulators.
* Excellent oral and written advocacy skills; experience crafting persuasive written comments in response to consultation requests.
* Ability to explain complex policy and regulatory problems to business team and other internal stakeholders.
* Demonstrated problem-solving experience in policy field; experience with development and assessment of effective climate policy instruments.
* Experience developing and managing stakeholder coalitions; ability to work with diverse stakeholders, including NGOs, to develop consensus policy approaches.
* Familiarity with Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) models and policy tools based on LCA.
* Sound judgment, and decision-making skills.
* Well organized, detail-oriented, and adept in a fast-paced environment; comfort working independently and out of traditional office environment.
* Work under pressure, meet tight deadlines and balance a heavy workload.
* Collaborates: Ensures understanding of how own role fits into the bigger picture and works with others to advance individual and team goals; seeks information and other points of view, and quickly responds to needs and promotes ideas with energy, urgency, and personal commitment.
Education & Experience
* Undergraduate or advanced degree; minimum 7-10 years relevant experience in climate policy, aviation, biofuels or related field.
* Private-sector experience in biofuels, aviation, or similar preferred.
