Ernest Jackson (EJ) is unique in MDLZ due to its portfolio’s focus on food supplements and pharmaceutical products. It is a small business unit within which the R&D department works with all functions on end-to-end development and improvements. Whether that’s new products, new manufacturing lines or improvements to logistics, quality, or project reporting. The role holder will be a senior member of the R&D department working cross functionally, leading and delivering the RDQ activities required to complete projects and issue resolution with an emphasis on meeting the desired consumer experience.
How you will contribute
The Senior Process Development Engineer II (SPDE II) is a key senior role within EJ’s R&D function, leading the Process Engineer and Packaging Technologist functions, with 3 direct reports. As the senior expert in process development, you will help define the development process for engineering projects. Supporting and collaborating with Manufacturing and Engineering departments. Supporting junior members across the development process to deliver best in class processes and products.
Overseeing R&D Engineer work on projects, training junior members of the team, and challenging the existing will be expected within this role to drive for continuous improvements in both process and outputs (the what and the how). It is a role that requires leadership and innovation. The role holder will be expected to plan, lead, and do on a range of varying projects, leveraging experience as a technical leader within the R&D function to ensure effective on time completion of work meeting customer expectations.
The Research and Development Department performs a wide range of projects in support of Ernest Jackson Business Objectives. Therefore, as well as process development, the development engineer is also expected to leverage their knowledge in support of product development and production efficiencies. In this role you will support other business functions in ensuring any changes to process consider and mitigate the impact to product. This will include supporting and running trials, validation work, process design, and supporting the creation of process parameters.
You will be expected to work in an organized manner within tight deadlines to ensure that projects are delivered within expected time scales. The role holder will have or develop a working knowledge of both licensed medicine regulations and the manufacturing landscape in order to design and develop new processes that meet manufacturing and regulatory needs.
What you will bring
1. A desire to drive your future, accelerate your career, and broaden your industry knowledge.
2. Engineering Degree and several years’ experience in the fast-moving consumer goods sector. Preferably with a demonstratable understanding of the fundamentals of confectionary process science.
3. Experience leading teams and driving project execution, comfortable with people management and coaching. Preferably with a strong commercial and project process awareness.
4. Excellent communication skills, able to communicate and influence at all levels of the business from blue collar shift workers to managing directors.
5. A willingness to “be on the tools” and do as well as lead, operating with integrity and trust.
6. A technical curiosity, a need to know the why, with the investigational and statistical skills to find out. Including investigative tools/systems, experimental design, and preferable Minitab or other statistical software expertise.
7. Technical experience including experience in CTQ/CTP creation and CQV and Mondelez IIM or equivalent project processes.
More about this role
1. Initiate a step change in engineering project planning and compliance by aligning EJ’s equipment design, acquisition, and development to the Mondelez IIM process.
2. Working as part of a cross functional team on engineering projects to bring new manufacturing or packing lines into the business unit, designing, and rolling out new or improved processes.
3. Ensure and manage asset transfer to supply chain/production from projects.
4. Provide senior technical leadership in the engineering sphere for the business, guiding business decisions in relation to engineering projects.
5. Support in identification and ideation of roadmaps/pipelines and workstreams for the R&D department.
