We have a new opportunity to be part of our Electronics team in the role of Control Systems Engineer.
As a Control Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for the development, integration, and support of control systems and software for Formula 1 applications. This includes working on on-car control systems, test rigs, simulators, and other related projects to improve performance and reliability. You will collaborate with multiple departments, providing expertise in control strategies, real-time software, and electronic hardware.
This role is ideal for an engineer with experience in motorsport electronics and control systems, looking to work in a dynamic, high-pressure environment where innovation and precision drive performance.
You will be responsible for:
* Developing, integrating, and maintaining on-car and test rig control systems.
* Designing, implementing, and optimizing real-time control algorithms.
* Working with embedded software, ECUs, and sensor systems to enhance performance and reliability.
* Supporting race and test events, diagnosing and resolving control system faults.
* Developing and maintaining calibration tools and processes.
* Conducting data analysis and simulation to refine and validate control strategies.
* Collaborating with vehicle performance, powertrain, and simulation teams to align control strategies with overall car performance objectives.
* Managing CAN communication networks, ensuring efficient data transmission and system integration.
* Supporting diagnostics, fault-finding, and reliability improvements across control system applications.
* Developing software tools to assist in calibration, validation, and system monitoring.
* Staying updated with latest advancements in control systems, software engineering, and embedded electronics.
What you will need to be successful in this role:
* Degree in Electronics, Control Systems, Software Engineering, or related discipline.
* Experience with real-time embedded control systems and software development.
* Strong proficiency in MATLAB, Simulink, and embedded C programming.
* Knowledge of automotive/motorsport control systems and ECU development.
* Familiarity with CAN, FlexRay, and Ethernet communication protocols.
* Experience with McLaren Applied Technologies tools, including ATLAS and System Monitor.
* Ability to analyse complex datasets to optimize control system performance.
* Experience with data acquisition and telemetry systems.
* Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
* Experience working in Formula 1 or high-performance motorsport is highly desirable.
* A passion for motorsport technology and a drive to innovate.
This is a full-time office-based role based at our campus in Silverstone, with additional requirement to travel to other locations for testing and race support where necessary.
