Peterborough City Council is currently looking for a committed and self-motivated person to work within the Leaving Care Service as a Personal Advisor specifically for our former Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children (UASC). A Personal Adviser (PA) works with care experienced young people to make sure they receive the care, support, and entitlements they need when they leave care to support them with a positive transition into adulthood and independence.
Our priorities are to ensure that young people are living in suitable accommodation, have opportunities to engage in education, employment/training, and are able to contribute positively within the local community. You will work within the Leaving Care Team predominantly with former UASC young people providing 1:1 support, and undertake the role of Personal Advisor as described in the Children (Leaving Care) Act 2000 and the Children and Social Work Act 2017. This includes regularly reviewing and updating Pathways Plans.
Requirements for the role:
1. You will have experience of working with young people in a professional capacity and have an understanding of the challenges facing care experienced young people, in particular those seeking asylum as they make the transition to independence.
2. You will have enthusiasm and creativity in engaging with young people.
3. You will require an ability to work on your own initiative as well as part of a team, to meet deadlines and work effectively under pressure. To be punctual, reliable, and work with integrity. There will be the occasional need to work some unsocial hours and the ability to undertake visits out of county is essential. As such applicants will require a full driving licence with use of their own car.
4. This role is a specialist UASC post and experience/knowledge in supporting this group of young people is vital to the role.
We are at the start of our improvement journey and will be involved with our experienced and supportive management team in shaping and developing our Leaving Care Service to make it the best it can be.
We are fully committed to making sure that our Care Experienced young people receive the support they need to lead fulfilling adult lives. We are ambitious for our young people and we are fully committed to ensuring they all have successful transitions to adulthood.
We are fortunate to have the backing and support from the whole council, all our leaders who take their role as corporate parents seriously and who recognise the absolute importance of all collaborating and working together.
Now is a great time to join us and be part of this service. In return for working with us, you will have access to an amazing range of benefits including:
* Generous annual leave entitlement starting at 25 days per year + bank holidays (FTE) + option to purchase up to an additional ten days per year (FTE)
