Multidisciplinary Therapy Assistant - Alfriston School
We are looking for a motivated Multidisciplinary Therapy Assistant to join our clinical team at Alfriston School, a special educational needs school for girls aged 11-18 with moderate learning difficulties. In this role, you will help deliver personalised interventions to improve students' daily living skills, sensory processing, and overall communication abilities. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in pursuing a career in one of our therapeutic strands such as SALT, OT, psychology or counselling, offering hands-on experience and the chance to work with a multidisciplinary team in both our school and residential provision.

Hours: Full Time; 37 Hours Monday to Friday (3x Days Per Week 8.30am-4.30pm, 1x Day 2.00pm-9.00pm 1x Day 8.30am-4.00pm) (with a daily 30-minute unpaid break)

About us
Alfriston is an outstanding Special School with Academy status for girls aged 11-18 with moderate learning difficulties and speech and language and communication difficulties. We currently have 164 girls on roll. All the pupils have an Education Health Care Plan and are taught in small groups and with additional support. Our staff are specialist subject teachers and are experienced in working with a range of special needs and abilities. We are proud of the excellent standard of education provided at Alfriston.
Main Purpose of Job
1. To provide support to the Therapy team at Alfriston School and assist in developing the school's therapeutic practices, ensuring a high-quality service is delivered to students.
2. Provide a flexible, evidence-based service for pupils and their families, fostering collaboration with education staff, external professionals, and families.
3. Implement the Balanced System approach to support secondary-aged pupils with learning disabilities and associated social, language, and communication needs.
4. Manage a defined caseload, deliver therapy programmes, and contribute to Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs).
5. Deliver and participate in specialist training to help pupils achieve their full potential.
6. Embed therapeutic strategies across the curriculum through an integrated approach.
7. Provide specialist long and short-term interventions as identified by the Wellbeing & Therapy team.
8. Apply effective approaches to teaching and learning for children with autism spectrum conditions and/or moderate learning disabilities.
Clinical Responsibilities
1. To work within relevant service, clinical, and professional guidelines in developing and delivering therapeutic interventions.
2. To coordinate the school’s work with local authority advisory services.
3. To coordinate and communicate with external NHS services.
4. To collaborate with students to identify specific therapeutic goals.
5. To plan and implement individual or group interventions.
6. To demonstrate an understanding of and apply the principles of multidisciplinary therapy.
7. To assist the Clinical Therapists in implementing and reviewing individual manual handling programmes.
8. To assist the Occupational Therapist and Speech and Language Therapist in implementing therapy programs.
9. To manage a caseload under supervision.
10. To work independently when required.
About you
Residential Integration
1. This role includes one afternoon/evening shift in the school's boarding provision.
2. You will ensure the therapeutic needs of the boarders are met.
3. You will help develop and contribute to boarding therapy support plans.
Essential Experience
1. Experience of working as a therapy assistant or discipline specific assistant in an educational/health setting.
2. Experience of working with groups of people in health care, teaching or voluntary organisations.
Essential Knowledge and Skills
1. Ability to use a variety of methods to teach occupational skills.
2. Basic IT skills.
3. Ability to motivate client group.
