Role summary:
The Transport Planner will plan all nightly trunking routes through DX Express. This position will support the National Trunking Manager with daily schedules and use the tools available to route all trunks and change routes as needed by reviewing volumes from past and forecasts for future to both create schedules in advance and review daily to best suit the network from a service and cost perspective.
Key responsibilities
Always represent DX in a professional manner
Follow all aspects of DX Manual Handling, Safe Working and Health and Safety policies
Create all daily national trunking schedules.
Ensure all trunking schedules are legal in terms of driver's hours legislation
Review volumes on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis to ensure schedules are in place to ensure a clear floor policy in all hubs
Manage routes in line with the trunking budget and time frames
Ensure all schedules fit with hub operations and with the correct flow into and out of the individual depots
Support the National Trunking Manager with communications to our DX employees onsite in our customer site on a daily basis ensuring the trunking schedules are clear and understood.
Liaise with hub management and depot management on a daily basis.
Fully communicate all changes daily
Peak time planning
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Full driving licence preferable but not essential
Excellent knowledge of Excel
High PC literacy
Excellent Communicator
Transport planning knowledge an advantage
Knowledge of DX systems an advantage
High standards for getting things right
Strong character who can challenge people from Warehouse operatives to General Managers and Directors
Must be able to work well in a team
CPC preferable but not essential however a basic knowledge of driver's hours legislation is essential
Excellent attention to detail
Relentless focus on delivering best practice
Ability to quickly learn new processes and systems
Resilient nature - able to deal with resistance
Numerate - understands principles of revenue, cost and profitability
Experience of Health and Safety principles preferred
Resourceful - able to gather information from different sources
