Role: Head of Finance/Financial Controller

Our client is an ambitious, fast-growing engineering and infrastructure business. Over the past 8 years, they've built a reputation for delivering quality through strong client relationships, trusted subcontracting partnerships, and tight operational control.
This is a pivotal new role designed for someone who can both shape financial strategy and stay close to the detail. You’ll bring experience, structure, and leadership to our clients finance function, while remaining hands-on and responsive to a dynamic, fast-paced SME environment.

Core Responsibilities:
* Work alongside senior management to shape financial planning, forecasting, and reporting frameworks.
* Bring best practices into budgeting, procurement, supply chain tracking, and internal controls.
* Develop systems to track project performance, cost allocation, and cash flow, helping improve decision-making and margins.
* From forecasting to reporting, stay actively involved in the day-to-day operations while building the function for scale.
Qualifications and Skills Required
* Proven experience in a senior finance role within an SME or growth-stage business
* Strong commercial acumen and ability to operate both strategically and operationally
* Comfortable working in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment with limited structure
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
* Highly proficient in financial planning, reporting, and system implementation
* Experience working in the engineering, construction, or infrastructure sectors
* Exposure to procurement, contract negotiation, or commercial operations
* Previous involvement in system upgrades or ERP implementation
* Accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) is desirable but not essential
Location
This role is based in Coventry, with a hybrid working model. While in-person collaboration is encouraged (especially during onboarding and strategic planning phases), flexible and remote arrangements are available for the right candidate.
