Harper Chalice is a British manufacturer of perimeter detection systems, including microphonic fence detection (PIDS), electric fences, infrared barriers, and secure hatch protection. With over 25 years’ experience, it is securing CNI sites across the UK and abroad and has recently joined the Vitaprotech group, a major European company in the security market.
We are looking for our Mechanical Design Engineer to support our growth and new challenges!
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assist sales team by producing quotes and sales support documentation.
2. Assist in the design and development of new and existing products.
3. Assist purchasing with sourcing of parts and components.
4. Oversee the fabrication and assembly of in-house built products.
5. Liaise with sales, R&D, purchasing, and production teams.
6. Establish cross-functional relationships with various departments and external stakeholders (production, methods, testing, customers, subcontractors, suppliers, etc.).
Studies, Design, Calculations and Mechanical Equipment Tests:
1. Study and manage mechanical design (CAD) for the development of new products and improvements to existing products.
2. Carry out studies for specific projects, technical tests on prototypes, check their conformity with the expected performance, and indicate any corrections to be made.
3. Create and update product files (diagrams, parts lists, drawings) in the ERP system.
4. Manage innovation projects, research new processes, materials, and ensure technology transfer to our suppliers.
5. Define new methods and processes in the context of standardization.
Methods and Production:
1. Monitor manufacturing, validate prototype parts, fine-tune mechanical components and wiring, and supervise factory assembly.
2. Monitor production costs of parts and products with suppliers.
3. Ensure compliance with manufacturing specifications and product conformity.
4. Manage subcontractors (drawing up parts, requesting quotes, monitoring production).
Maintenance and Technical Support:
1. Provide advice and technical support to teams (quality, maintenance, methods).
2. Manage design versions and stocks of the various parts produced.
Qualifications/Skills:
1. Basic understanding of installation techniques ideally for electric fences and Perimeter Intrusion Detection Systems.
2. Knowledge of the technical specifications and operational requirements.
3. Knowledge of safety and legal standards related to the installation and maintenance of security systems.
4. Experience with tools and equipment.
5. Strong attention to detail with a focus on ensuring high-quality documentation.
6. Problem-solving mindset with a solution-oriented approach to technical challenges.
7. Ability to work under supervision while gradually developing independence in tasks.
8. Good communication skills, capable of effectively interacting with team members and supervisors.
9. Commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and professionalism on-site.
10. Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, to follow instructions and communicate effectively.
Hours of Work:
37.5 hours per week (9.00am to 5.00pm with 30 min lunch break, from Monday to Friday).
Salary & Benefits:
From £20,000 to £35,000 per annum, depending on experience.
