About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate with interest/expertise in psychoneuroimmunology or related field to work with us investigating the mechanisms behind the antidepressant effect of physical exercise. The position is funded by the Wellcome Trust for two years in the first instance (Life Study), potentially renewable for another year. You will work at the Translational Pharmacology Lab directed by Dr. Livia A. Carvalho. The post holder will apply both wet- and dry-lab methods in appropriate human clinical studies to interrogate research questions related to development, maintenance, and treatment of mental illnesses.
About You
The successful candidate will be expected to have or be working toward a PhD in genomics, biomedical sciences, immunology, or related field, an interest in neurosciences, with excellent hands-on data analysis experience of omics data. Excellent laboratory skills and data analysis skills are desirable. Key attributes of the successful candidate should include evidence of prior research productivity, great communication and interpersonal skills, good organisation, self-motivation, independence, and the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team.

The William Harvey Research Institute has a strong and growing group working in genomics and research is focused on neuroendocrine, inflammation and cardiovascular disease and a particular strength in human genetics.
Our team has large experience in the field of Psychoneuroimmunology human lab work combining clinical and epidemiological approaches to understand the biological embedding of stress in people with or at-risk of mental illness.
