Applications are invited from experienced Health and Care Professions Council registered Biomedical Scientists to join our team.
You must have professional knowledge and technical expertise in Diagnostic Cytology attained either through relevant masters degree, Higher Specialist Diploma or extensive experience of working in a Cytology department. You must also have a good understanding of the principles of current practice in this area of expertise. The department is proactive and forward-thinking having recently established a Rapid on Site Evaluation (ROSE) clinic for the processing of EBUS Samples. Please note that gynaecological cytology processing and screening is not carried out in this department.
The applicant must have extensive experience of working in a Cytology service and have a good understanding of the principles of current practice in this area of expertise.
The applicant will:
1. Manage and coordinate day-to-day technical activities of the Cytology section of the laboratory service.
2. Be responsible for standards and quality of performance of the Cytology section of the department, including instrument and procedural problem solving.
3. Process a broad range of specialist and routine laboratory diagnostic investigations in the Cytology department using a range of scientific measurements and technical procedures on patient samples.
4. Work with the Pathology Manager to plan, coordinate and review a programme of staff development including performance and training for the Pathology Department. Will have delegated responsibility as the departmental training manager.
5. Participate as part of the management team within the Pathology Department.
Evidence of active participation in Continuing Professional Development is required.
The post will be based at the Laboratory which provides Pathology and Cytology support to the acute hospital and also to General Practice.
