Head of HR
We are seeking a proactive, hands-on HR generalist as Head of HR.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will be expected to contribute to the overall business success by providing guidance to our management team on HR matters, ensuring business needs, risk management, and employee support has the right balance throughout.
You’ll be managing our existing HR team, as well as overseeing the service provision from our external payroll provider, but you’ll also be expected to be hands-on with the operational HR tasks as needed. This will include all tasks associated with the entire HR/people journey, such as contracts, pensions, workforce planning, recruitment & selection, onboarding, induction, training, reward, performance, conduct, attendance, restructure, and dismissals.
You will need to be energetic, driven, direct, and able to react quickly to situations that require it, striving to provide solutions whilst applying your commercial acumen. You must be able to focus on results and tackle any problems or conflicts that arise.
You will be based at our Head Office in Ipswich, but you must also be prepared to attend our other sites located in Devon several times throughout the year. The business has over 300 permanent staff, supported by seasonal staff during our peak months.
Responsibilities include:
* Management of HR; oversee and manage payroll providers.
* Lead on recruitment process utilizing all available channels to source the best candidates.
* Identify trends and challenges making appropriate recommendations (skills gap, turnover, diversity, performance/improvement management, candidate shortages, workforce/labour market, restructuring, etc.).
* Identify key drivers of engagement and attrition across our workforce.
* Ownership of the annual employee engagement survey, establishing good employee participation rates and providing clear and quantitative feedback to the Management Team, highlighting priorities and actions required to aid results.
* Drive the HR function from a transactional-led operation to a model that provides proactive strategic support to the staff, managers, and the company without losing sight of day-to-day tasks and workload.
* Utilize and report on key people metrics.
* Develop and foster strong relationships and communication channels with all department heads and managers to achieve our strategic operational and corporate objectives.
* Resolve employee relations issues through a systematic approach with clear documentation and follow-through.
* Maintain a strong awareness of employment legislation, statutory guidance, and employment law, providing advice and guidance to the management team.
* Ensure the company conforms to all legal, statutory, and regulatory requirements and compliance.
Requirements / Qualifications:
To be successful you’ll need experience in employee relations and employment legislation, strong administrative experience dealing with highly confidential matters, and be comfortable juggling multiple priorities. Experience working in a standalone HR role is essential as is experience within an SME business. Ideally, you will have CIPD Level 7 or equivalent and be working in a role of a similar nature but applications from experienced, driven individuals are welcomed.
