An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Pharmacy Technician to join the Offender Health Directorate working at HMP Lowdham Grange, a Category B men's private prison.
As a Pharmacy Technician, you will provide information and advice to patients and colleagues about medication and processes where appropriate. You will be part of a highly motivated and skilled team who provide integrated healthcare (physical healthcare, mental health, and substance misuse services).
You will support all aspects of the supply and distribution of medications to ensure the safe, timely, and accurate provision of medication to patients. Your responsibilities will include:
1. Ensuring that all medications are ordered via the electronic prescribing on SystmOne.
2. Completing medication reconciliation for all new arrivals and ongoing medication optimisation support and reviews.
3. Leading on the safe storage and use of medications.
4. Delivering a Smoking Cessation support programme and administering Opioid Substitute Treatment.
The Offender Health Care Group is one of the largest and most successful providers of prison healthcare in the UK, providing physical, mental health, and substance misuse healthcare services in prisons across the East Midlands, Lincolnshire & Leicestershire.
The successful candidates will have a BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences and NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent, along with a current professional registration as a Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council and evidence of an up-to-date CPD portfolio.
You will be able to effectively work as part of a team, supporting all aspects of the supply and distribution of medications to ensure the safe, timely, and accurate provision of medication to patients. Responsibilities include:
1. Confirming medication histories (medicines reconciliation) by appropriate means and with patient consent.
2. Undertaking accurate Risk Assessments to ascertain whether patients may hold their medications ‘In Possession’ or otherwise.
3. Responding to and processing requests for medication to facilitate the process of drug administration and supply to patients.
4. Checking prescriptions generated to ensure accuracy and legality before requesting supply.
5. Ensuring medicines kept in Emergency Bags are properly maintained and replenished.
6. Responding to MHRA drug alerts and facilitating appropriate action within prison healthcare.
7. Accurately inputting, processing, and filing data to ensure accurate record keeping.
8. Contributing to the development and support implementation of medicine management strategy and associated services and projects.
