This is a senior role within the organisation with the assigned specialist and professional leadership acting as midwifery IT specialist when representing internal and external meetings on behalf of Northampton General Hospital. They will have the ability to establish good team relationships and collaboration within Northampton General Hospital colleagues and local maternity systems.
The post holder will be the Lead Midwife for IT with ownership and responsibility for the co-ordination and collation of data with colleagues in the maternity, IT department and external agencies where required.
To work with clinical informatics, business managers and finance to assess the benefits of initiatives and local technology projects in order to implement. The post holder will be responsible for identifying and leading significant service and operational transformation, including standardisation of maternity systems and processes, service transition and benefits realisation.
To undertake regular Senior Midwifery Manager on-call duties as a senior midwife.
Main duties of the job
Clinical
1. The post holder will ensure clinical practice is supported by digital technology.
2. To ensure that the maternity IT system functionality is adhered to support practitioners professional standards.
3. To support the digital agenda within the Better Births and long term plan reports.
4. Maintain competencies relating to digital leadership by attending regular updates such as local user group initiatives and the national Digital Midwives Expert Reference Group.
5. Provide professional leadership including motivation of staff regarding the use of digital technology.
6. Ensure the relevant data is captured and maintained as a collaborative approach with the wider Multidisciplinary team to meet both National and local standards.

Professional
1. To act in a safe and professional manner at all times in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, Midwives Rules and Code of Professional Conduct.
2. Ensure that all clinical care personally provided is of a high standard and reflects current evidence.
3. To provide professional and clinical midwifery leadership, acting as a role model for professional practice.
4. To maintain eligibility to practice via professional development and maintenance of professional portfolio in accordance with CPD.
Maternity Information
1. Work towards the ambitions of Better Births to evaluate the maternity IT system and its abilities to meet the recommendations.
2. Utilise a variety of information technology systems and databases to assist with data collation and audit processes.
3. Provide professional leadership including motivation of staff regarding the use of digital technology.
4. Review, monitor and develop processes and systems to support accurate and reliable data quality for internal and external assurance, local commissioning and local, regional and national datasets.
5. Coordinate and liaise with other departments to ensure the timely delivery and quality and reliability of maternity data.
6. Ensure the relevant data is captured and maintained as a collaborative approach with the wider Multidisciplinary team to meet both National and local standards.
Management
1. Review and evaluate information systems to assess for both clinical and technological fitness for purpose.
2. As a member of the Senior Midwifery Management Team, you will be expected to partake in strategic and operational commitments, including on-call provision and a member of the senior midwifery team.

1. Develop and maintain communication with people on complex matters, issues and ideas and/or in complex situations.

Person specification
Educations, Training and Qualifications
* Registered Midwife
* First level degree in related healthcare discipline or substantial experiential equivalence
* Evidence of continuing education
* Undertaken basic qualifications in the use of computer packages such as the European Computer Driving License (ECDL) or Word, PowerPoint and excel software
* Teaching qualification and / or recent teaching activity
* Master qualifications or working towards
* Post-graduate management qualification and equivalent level of knowledge gained through extensive experience
