Head of Portfolio/PMO Lead/Deputy PMO Director Governance & Assurance - £70k- £82k plus benefits, 27% Civil Service pension employer contribution
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Portfolio/PMO Lead/Deputy PMO Director to join an Enterprise Portfolio Management Office. This pivotal role focuses on Governance and Assurance, ensuring the strategic management of our diverse portfolio of programmes and projects. You will oversee financial, portfolio, and performance aspects, manage a small team of 2-3 individuals, and maintain senior stakeholder relationships across director levels and senior civil servants. Additionally, you will conduct gateway reviews and deputise for the Portfolio Director as required.
Location: Hybrid 2-3 days per week in London (Central)
Salary: £70,000 - £82,000 plus benefits, 27% Civil Service pension employer contribution
Annual Leave: 30 days per annum, increasing to 35 days after the first full leave year, plus Bank Holidays (pro rata for part-time staff).

Key Responsibilities:
* Provide governance and integrated assurance advice, including Risk Potential Assessments and Gateway Reviews, for a large and diverse portfolio of projects and programmes.
* Implement and maintain portfolio management and governance frameworks.
* Establish and nurture positive working relationships, influencing stakeholders at all levels within the organisation, including a challenging customer base.
* Build and maintain a wide network of relationships across organisational boundaries to support collaborative working and achieve effective outcomes.
* Manage financial, portfolio, and performance aspects of the role.
* Lead and develop a small team, ensuring high performance and professional growth.
* Promote a culture of diversity and inclusion, supporting others in their roles.
* Think strategically, anticipating and managing high-level risks and uncertainties.
* Make decisions or provide objective advice based on the best available evidence and analysis, considering the wider impacts of activities and decisions.
* Facilitate senior-level group discussions and develop Board papers and internal communication material.
* Explain and present complex issues in an easy-to-understand manner, ensuring key project and programme issues are understood by stakeholders
Key Experience and Skills:
* Proven experience as a Head of Portfolio/PMO Lead/Deputy PMO Director, specialising in Governance and Assurance
* Experience of working within an Enterprise PMO handling £bn+ budgets.
* Experience of providing governance and integrated assurance advice, Risk Potential Assessments, Gateway Reviews and services for a large and diverse portfolio of projects and programmes.
* In-depth knowledge and experience of portfolio management and governance frameworks.
* Experience in senior stakeholder relationship management, particularly with director levels and senior civil servants; Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish positive working relationships and influence people at all levels within the organisation and a track record of building a wide network of relationships across organisational boundaries to support collaborative working and achieve effective outcomes.
* Proven ability to provide leadership, set strategic objectives, and develop and motivate teams to deliver results across formal reporting lines.
* Ability to deputise for the Portfolio Director as required.
