Job Opportunity: Autism Learning Support Assistant (Newport)
Teaching Personnel is currently recruiting on behalf of a partnership school in Newport to support a class in the school's LRB (Learning Resource Base) unit. This classroom consists of 10 students, all of whom have severe ASD, with some displaying additional behavioural challenges. We are looking for a compassionate, resilient, and patient teaching assistant to help support these students and contribute to their development.
Key Requirements for the Role:
Must be registered with the Education Workforce Council (EWC).
Hold a current Child-Only DBS certificate registered on the Update System.
Provide two professional references covering the past 24 months.
Ability to remain calm and resilient when faced with challenging behaviour.
Experience: While prior experience working with children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in a professional capacity is preferred, we also welcome applicants with personal experience or a willingness to learn and develop skills in this area.
Main Responsibilities:
Provide direct support in a small class of pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
Be a positive, encouraging presence, helping children to thrive and develop both academically and socially.
Build trusting relationships with students, staff, and parents, offering both social and emotional support.
Create a nurturing, safe, and positive environment where students can succeed.
Adhere to the school’s safeguarding and protection policies.
Work collaboratively with teachers and other teaching assistants as part of a strong team.
Remain flexible and adaptable to meet the evolving needs of the students.
