Amazon Web Services is looking for a highly motivated, technically savvy Fiber Engineer to help develop and scale one of the world’s largest and most complex networks.
The ideal candidate will possess a technical background with a strong working knowledge of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and should also have a demonstrated ability to create fiber network design, drawing, scope of work other necessary technical documentation, and associated processes. You should have a demonstrated ability to think logically about technical challenges, with the ability to break down and resolve issues independently. As well as:
1. Experience working in GIS Systems
2. Engineering and process design methodology
3. Understanding of Underground Construction Techniques
4. Understanding of Outside and Inside Plant Cabling and Routing
5. Ability to manage multiple tasks at the same time
6. Ability to work across multiple time zones
Key job responsibilities
As a OSP Network Engineer, you will have the exciting opportunity to create and maintain records surrounding our fiber optic infrastructure using GIS and associated tools. You will have:
1. 3-5 years experience in the creation of engineering design and documents, single line drawings, cable routing (OSP/ISP), and splicing work packages in GIS platforms including GE Smallworld
2. Possess knowledge of telco GIS data models used in the design of fiber networks, representing civils infrastructure and physical fiber connectivity
3. Understanding of data translation tools including FME, and experience establishing ETL and data conversion routines to load external file based data into the GIS inventory
4. Interface with internal (Data Center Engineering, Business Developers, Deployment Engineers, Tool Automation) and external stakeholders (Construction Vendors, Engineering Firms)
5. Optimize processes to improve efficiency and delivery.
6. Build automated data loading routine
7. Build automated design schema.
8. Be APAC GIS Point of Contact (POC) for all GIS related support, which includes providing trainings to non-GIS engineers.
9. Willing to travel 10% of the time
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3-5 years experience in the creation of engineering design and documents, single line drawings, cable routing (OSP/ISP), and splicing work packages in GIS platforms including GE Smallworld.
- Relevant experience working in GIS systems.
- Experience in project or program management, with a proven ability to work effectively with all organizational levels.
- Experience in data, inventory, or records management.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience using GE Smallworld in GIS applications
- Experience in fiber network design
- Advanced knowledge of FME and other data conversion tools
- Experience with telecommunications industry standards.
