About DUSA Dundee University Students’ Association (DUSA) is a charity with over 17,000 members. We are the most successful students’ union in Scotland and one of the top five within the UK. We create welcoming, safe and valued physical and virtual spaces for students to come together and socialise. We encourage students to learn, volunteer, work and join clubs and societies. They can also access advice, guidance and support from our team. We enable them to pursue their ambitions and maximise their individual and collective impact. Our main building is located in the city centre of Dundee and we also have satellite locations on city campus and on the Ninewells and Kirkcaldy campuses. Purpose The societies officer will continue to grow our student societies and communities, using marketing administrative support, event planning, and creative Initiatives to target areas of key growth. You will divide your time between objectives around building belonging and creating meaningful and effective relationships with societies to ensure they are supported to make a lasting Impact. You will be the key staff contact for society members to help them expand and grow their Impact and reach. Key duties and responsibilities: Assist In the development and management of society processes ensuring effective and efficient delivery of a range of opportunities for students. To be the lead staff contact and take full responsibility for DUSA's society provision To assist in the development of a student engagement strategy to ensure societies reach a wide range of students. To carry out effective and accurate data collection, ensuring key society successes, metrics, and targets are recorded monthly Actively promote achievements, developments, general activity and progress of student groups and campaigns externally via social media, and through the university. Develop and build training and workshops that benefits committees of societies and to lead on all society committee training planning and delivery To lead, organise, and improve the administration of societies Including assisting societies with financials and banking to ensure accurate reporting Maintain and develop student communities both online and offline and support the amplification of the voices in the student community Support the development and delivery of our major events such as Freshers' Fair, Freshers' Week, Halloween, St Patricks Day, ensuring societies Involvement where applicable Develop a comprehensive societies events calendar, supporting them where possible to enhance their events and promote them to the wider student community Ensure that all society activities are compliant with health & safety policies, DUSA policies and are covered by Insurance policies Conduct regular meetings with societies to seek and act on feedback Support student societies as a means of representation around causes, concerns and activities that matter to students Support individual society members through mediation, if necessary Provide support and guidance for students wishing to establish new groups and societies whilst working closely with the existing societies to support the growth and development of their aims and activities Support the Vice President of Student Activities in developing projects, initiatives and research in learning, teaching, student engagement and the student experience With support from the Volunteer Coordinator, promote student participation in extra-curricular and voluntary activities Work closely with Events/Operations to improve engagement and opportunities available to societies at DUSA Conduct research into the higher education and voluntary sectors, particularly with respect to fostering communities, ethical engagement practices and producing summary reports and research papers Have a flexible approach to duties and work and adopt a teamwork style with departments and activities across DUSA. To positively promote and uphold the values and policies of DUSA Carry out any other appropriate duties which may be considered necessary by line management.
