Job overview
We are looking for an experienced Pharmacist with excellent communication skills, leadership skills and clinical pharmacy knowledge to join the pharmacy team as Deputy Chief Pharmacist.
You will work with the Chief Pharmacist to ensure the Trust-wide delivery of safe, effective and efficient medicines optimisation and pharmacy services to patients and other service users in the Trust. As a member of the Pharmacy Senior Leadership Team you will assist in leading the development of medicines optimisation and pharmacy services throughout the Trust.
You will manage medicines optimisation and pharmacy services colleagues throughout the Trust who are involved in providing services or supporting projects within Pharmacy. You will work with the Chief Pharmacist in ensuring Trust, divisional and departmental objectives are met for Pharmacy.
Main duties of the job
As Deputy Chief Pharmacist you will take responsibility for delivering the strategic and operational management the pharmacy services.
1. Deputise for the Chief Pharmacist and take corporate responsibility for the pharmacy service aligning the pharmacy vision.
2. Act as the initial point of contact for staff in response to issues concerning pharmacy and wider medicine management issues.
3. Support the Chief Pharmacist to provide advice on highly complex matters pertaining to the use of medicines, to the Executive Team and wider teams as necessary gaining agreement and co-operation.
4. With the Chief Pharmacist drive the design and delivery of the vision and strategic priorities for the pharmacy service, ensuring alignment with the overall Trusts plans.
5. Operationalise the strategic vision of the future, encompassing trends in Pharmacy, technology, funding and workforce.

You will be joining a friendly department with over 150 staff, including many other specialist pharmacists, medicines management technicians and other key staff with expertise in a wide range of specialities, providing pharmacy services to our patients.

Person specification
Essential and Desirable
* Pharmacy degree (Masters level or Bachelor with relevant UK experience)
* Full UK registered Pharmacist with General Pharmaceutical Council
* Postgraduate Diploma/MSc Clinical Pharmacy
* Member of a Professional body, e.g. Royal Pharmaceutical Society and working towards membership of the Faculty of Pharmacy Practice
Experience
* Highly experienced at a senior management level in hospital pharmacy and clinical pharmacy
* Extensive experience in a broad range of complex pharmacy services including Drug & Therapeutics, Clinical Governance and Risk management and commissioning
* Experience in managing change and developing services
* Knowledge of commissioning requirements, resources including prior approval procedures, Bluetec, Individual Funding Requests, Homecare Medicines
* Demonstrate experience in working with patients, doctors and nurses as part of a medicines management scheme
* Demonstrate a working knowledge of Health and Safety with reference to risk assessments and action plans
* Evidence of producing high quality work both individually and as part of a team
