Liverpool Football Club are recruiting for an Assistant Head Groundsperson to join our Team.
Based out of our Melwood Training Ground, you will help provide the best possible pitch standards for football. You will have direct reports of apprentices and casual colleagues and be responsible for mentoring and supervising members of the grounds team, deputising in the absence of the Grounds Manager.
What will you be doing?
1. Perform daily pitch maintenance, including mowing, aerating, line marking, divoting, spraying, and fertilising.
2. Monitor and improve pitch health, offering solutions and support to colleagues around grass health.
3. Operate irrigation systems and set up irrigation programmes to match requirements.
4. Manage colleagues and contractors and liaise with coaches and other departments when needed.
5. Safely use all chemical and fertiliser products as required, in line with Club procedure and all relevant Health & Safety law.
6. Order materials necessary for the routine operation of the Grounds team.
7. Ensure that all Health & Safety responsibilities are adhered to, including goal post safety checks and proper use of all PPE.
8. Adherence to manual handling guidelines and attending regular refresher courses on all aspects of Health & Safety and industry best practice.
9. Safely operate a range of horticultural equipment and machinery ensuring all is maintained in accordance with routine operating requirements.
10. Understand Risk and Method Statements and work to these and write them.
11. Set up and manage staff rotas and assist Manager with performance reviews.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for candidates who have experience working within a ground’s maintenance role within a sporting environment. You will have completed an NVQ Level 3 in Sports Turf, or have equivalent relevant experience, and be qualified in the safe use of pesticides to levels PA1, PA2, and PA6. You will have the ability to lead a small team and be able to manage small projects on behalf of your line manager.
Experience with maintaining artificial surfaces, reinforced pitches, and having completed an IOSH Managing Safety Course would be beneficial but is not essential.
