Job: Senior Design Manager – Overhead Lines Location: Glasgow / Hybrid Role Overview The Senior Design Manager (Overhead Lines) is a critical leadership role within the Energy business, responsible for managing all design aspects across tenders, preconstruction activities, and ongoing projects. The role involves overseeing overhead line design and ensuring effective delivery of design management processes while contributing to the success of Energy projects in the UK construction and infrastructure industry. Key Responsibilities Design Management: Manage and oversee all design aspects during the tender, preconstruction, and project execution phases. Lead preconstruction and early contractor involvement design activities. Take ownership of overhead line design processes and outputs. Project Collaboration: Work closely with project teams to ensure designs meet technical, contractual, and commercial requirements. Coordinate with design consultants, ensuring clear scope definitions, programme alignment, and timely delivery. Compliance and Quality: Ensure adherence to relevant industry standards, NEC 3/4 contract forms, and associated change mechanisms. Champion best practices in design management, including the application of BIM processes where beneficial. Qualifications and Experience Degree or HNC/HND in a relevant technical discipline. Membership in a recognised industry professional institute (e.g., CIOB, ICE, IET) and ideally working towards or holding chartered status. Demonstrable experience in the Energy sector, specifically in overhead line projects. Strong knowledge of NEC 3/4 forms of contract and associated change mechanisms. Proven track record in preconstruction/tender design appointments and project delivery. Expertise in managing design consultants, including scope, programme, and performance oversight.
