Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
As an Apprentice Commissioning Engineer, you’ll learn how to:
* Successfully commission and start-up water, waste, bio-resource and networks projects
* Gain knowledge of commissioning planning and preparation of comprehensive commissioning plans
* Observe senior Engineers in the commissioning of electrical, mechanical, and control systems, planning of and conducting of tests and inspections to ensure systems and components function according to commissioning requirements
* Troubleshoot and resolve installation and commissioning issues
* Understand the importance of maintaining accurate records of commissioning activities and results, and how to prepare and submit detailed reports on testing and commissioning outcomes
* Ensure compliance with industry standards and project requirements

Your training plan
* Your apprenticeship will last 48 months, and successful apprentices will achieve a Utilities Engineering Technician, Level: 3 (electrical) Standard, endorsed by the Institute for Apprenticeships
* During your first year, you'll spend 8 months working from Bolton Technical Training Centre during the working week (Monday - Friday)
* If you're from outside of the area, accommodation will be provided by United Utilities during this period, excluding weekends.
* You will need to be mobile in this role, we’ll contribute up to £500 towards driving lessons and tests to help to get you on the road
* As long as you meet all necessary standards and behaviour criteria throughout the programme

Requirements
Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
* 5 GCSEs incl. Maths, English, and Science or Techn (grade A-C or grades 9-4)
