About the job:
As a Senior Engineer for Streetlighting, you will provide street lighting design and delivery service for council and stakeholder schemes. You will be working as part of a team involved with managing, maintaining and upgrading the assets and delivering a significant capital LED programme.
You will have good technical and working knowledge with experience of project management in design, financial management and delivery of engineering projects with an effectiveness to work in a culture of quick changing priorities, needs and resources.
You will be involved in the feasibility, planning, design, procurement, construction, implementation, financial and resource management of highway projects from minor works to large scale, multi-agency transport and public realm scheme.
As a first line manager, your role will involve managing small teams, in an allocated area of work. You will develop and maximise the potential of your staff and promote a good working environment.
You will carry out a range of technical tasks, being proactive in your approach, liaising and negotiating with staff across the Service, other Council departments, Councillors, external organisations, agencies and members of the public, providing a courteous, helpful, confidential and responsive service. You will also be required to attend meetings and exhibitions and work on site, as necessary.
You will represent Kirklees Council and show you are customer focused, with a commitment to making a positive impact.
Key role and responsibilities:
* Undertaking lighting design, programming and delivery of schemes, in line with the councils requirements, procedures and standards.
* Undertaking lighting design for the council’s major roads projects, new build estates and other developer lead lighting schemes.
* Use your experience, knowledge and a practical approach, delivering a wide range of streetlighting projects, using a range of equipment.
* Preparing estimates, technical reports, feasibility studies, design specifications and contact documents.
* Preparing and producing environmental impact awareness reports, economic assessment and business cases.
* Contributing to compliance with the Quality Management Systems including site specific audits.
* Lead on or assist with project management to ensure the performance of those working on projects and programmes within your control.
* Managing and delivering the LED capital investment programme and monitoring and reporting on the associated Salix funding grant.
* Working on a daily basis with Councillors, MPs and other stakeholders ensuring a prompt and comprehensive response.
* Engaging with clients, external partners, the councils internal construction team, Northern Power Grid and sub-contractors to provide and ensure a high quality service and performance.
* Maintaining the day-to-day street lighting inventory ensuring timely and accurate updates of the inventory so as to reflect energy savings and reduction of the carbon footprint.
* Being responsible for the wellbeing of yourself and others.
