Job Duties
To provide effective Career and Technical instruction in the business software applications area; to assist assigned students to complete the required competencies for that trade area; demonstrate effective classroom or lab management; ensure that the lab is operated in compliance with all aspect of safety management; and to maintain accurate and current students records for the assigned student.
Minimum Qualifications
The ability to engage students in one-on-one teaching and work with students and inmate aides in a classroom/Lab environment. The ability to maintain accurate records. Knowledge and experience of policy and procedure governing adult education. Must possess working knowledge of basic adult education field, adult literacy, and computer software appropriate for program needs. Experience in maintaining classroom, equipment, and inventories; Demonstrate competency in the related field of current trade licensure. Knowledge and success rate in GED Preparation and completion.
Education: Four years degree in Business/Information Technology (OR) High School Diploma with equivalent experience.
Licensure: In addition to having a Business Management/ Information Technology degree, must be eligible for a Collegiate license from the department of Education with an endorsement in business/information technology area.
'MS Office Specialist' Certification is required for those who don’t have a four year’s degree in Business Administration. Must also be eligible for a teaching certificate from the Department of Education.
If you do not currently hold a teachers/trade license from the Department of Education (DOE):
1. You must submit all documentation for your provisional license to the licensure designee for VADOC during the first 90 days of employment.
2. Obtaining a provisional license within the 1-year probationary period is employee’s responsibility and is required to continuing employment at the Department of Corrections (DOC).

Note: Successful candidates are responsible for any renewal points to maintain a teaching license under the guidelines of Virginia Department of Education to comply with the requirements for continued employment in this position. If seeking reciprocity from another state, candidates must submit all documentation for a Virginia Teaching License within 90 days of employment and satisfy all requirements within a year.
Additional Considerations
Master’s degree with a major or minor in a relevant educational field. Five years’ experience in the related trade/field will be preferred. Knowledge of all phases of the trade area.

Prefer experience teaching adults and or youth in a correctional or alternative education setting. Prefer knowledge and experience of policy and procedures governing adult education. Experience of DOC institutional policies and procedures. Knowledge and experience in correctional education classroom management. The demonstrated ability to supervise students and inmate aides in a correctional facility. Knowledge of and experience in correctional education classroom management. Experience teaching adults and or youth in a correctional or alternative education setting. Knowledge and experience of policy and procedures governing adult education. Experience of Virginia Department of Corrections' (VADOC) institutional policies and procedures; the ability to facilitate other Correctional Education instructors and knowledge of the DOC institutional policies and procedures.
