About the role
The Infrastructure Engineering team designs, develops, and operates all infrastructure used by Tesco Technology across our data centres, offices, stores, and distribution centres. This encompasses multiple domains: private and public cloud, connectivity, end-user computing, CI/CD, and monitoring toolkit. This includes both 3rd party and internally developed infrastructure applications that support the wider Tesco business.
Key activities include:
* Designing, developing, and operating the Infrastructure platforms that allow development teams and business colleagues to consume infrastructure.
* Designing, developing, and operating the automation to allow Infrastructure platforms to be consumed in a controlled, auditable, and repeatable manner.
* Setting the strategy, objectives, and high-level plans for infrastructure.
* Collaborating with development teams to create appropriate infrastructure solutions.
* Evaluating partners, software, and hardware to deliver the strategy.
* Driving innovation at Tesco through infrastructure transformation.
* Defining and overseeing standards and simplification across the estate.
* Designing, delivering, and operating new and reusable infrastructure solutions.
You will be responsible for:

* Preparing and maintaining technical documents & presentations for systems engineering and system operations.

* Evaluating new tools and techniques to understand their value and impact.
* Understanding current application development techniques (12 factor app, agile, sprints) and their implications for infrastructure.
* Collaborating with team members and wider infrastructure teams to understand their requirements.
* Ensuring high quality in your designs and understanding their impacts on other areas of infrastructure.
* Keeping technical skills up to date and tracking new technologies.
* Introducing automation to all aspects of your day-to-day work.
* Being proficient in spoken and written English and comfortable communicating with leaders and engineers.
* Improving and automating team procedures and systems performances.
* Leading group design discussions on your area of expertise.
You will need:
* Knowledge of various OS related functionalities including Backups, Capacity Planning, Disaster Recovery, and File System Management.
* Knowledge and experience with various storage replication software, SAN switches, Storage Virtualization, and storage management software/hardware.
* Ability to configure SAN infrastructures.
* Knowledge of enterprise backup and recovery hardware/software.
* Ability to develop complex scripting logic.
* Strong verbal communication and technical writing skills.
* Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
