Consultant in Anaesthesia with an interest in Interventional Radiology
We are looking to appoint a substantive Consultant Anaesthetist (10PA), with an interest in Interventional Radiology to support increasing demand, to develop patient pathways and work collaboratively with our IR team on service development.
The post holder will share clinical and managerial leadership within the Anaesthetic service with the present consultants. The appointee will be expected to be involved actively in Clinical Governance and Quality improvement projects. Continuing education, professional development and teaching are actively encouraged and research and audit opportunities will be available.

Main duties of the job
We are looking for an enthusiastic and collaborative team player with a special interest and recognised expertise in the provision of anaesthesia in Interventional Radiology.
Our department provides anaesthetic support to our highly regarded Interventional Radiology service, involving a range of interventions, spanning vascular, urology and gastroenterology specialties.
The Royal Berkshire Foundation Trust Interventional Radiology service has been selected as a pilot site for a GIRFT review ahead of the planned national roll out of GIRFT in IR. We are currently looking to increase anaesthetic support (both in sessional time and in stronger clinical links) for the radiology service, and to develop patient pathways for both day case and inpatient interventional radiology procedures.
The successful candidate will:
* Have duties that include provision of anaesthesia, pre-operative assessment, post-operative visits, administration, teaching and audit.
* Work in multidisciplinary teams providing high quality care to patients and work well with colleagues providing an advisory and consultation service.
* Participate actively and enthusiastically in the clinical governance, teaching and management activities of the department.
* Participation and involvement in meetings and business planning in the anaesthesia service.
About us
The hospitals have five operating suites including a total of twenty-one theatres allowing a throughput of ~20,000 cases each year. All theatres (excluding theatre 12) have anaesthetic rooms and each suite has fully staffed recovery facilities. As part of the consolidation plan there has been an expansion of operating facilities in the South Wing theatres and the development of a larger recovery area and provision for higher monitored care within the recovery room. There was significant investment in anaesthetic equipment with complete replacement of all TIVA pumps, anaesthetic machines (Maquet Flow-C and Flow-I machines) and fully integrated and portable Philips monitoring. The anaesthetic equipment is of a very high standard and fully complies with minimal monitoring standards. We were one of the first cohort of hospitals in the UK to move to a model of universal video-laryngoscopy. The equipment across the Trust is uniform and we have on-site maintenance. We provide a paperless theatre environment, including electronic anaesthetic records, with full integration with our Cerner electronic patient record.

Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
* Full registration with the GMC/eligible for registration
* FRCA of equivalent qualification
* Within 6 months of CCT in Anaesthesia at interview date
* Membership of the Royal College of Anaesthetists of the United Kingdom or equivalent
* Current Advanced Life Support training
* Higher degree or other relevant qualifications related to anaesthetic practice
Clinical Experience, Knowledge & Skills
* Fully trained in Anaesthesia - Level of training equivalent to that required to obtain a CCT in Anaesthesia in the UK as defined by the RCoA
* Excellent clinical knowledge of aspects of relevant anaesthesia practice and patient care
* Experience in service planning and development for anaesthesia in Interventional Radiology
* Higher or advanced training in a desirable subspecialty as indicated in job description
Audit, Management & IT
* Ability to work within clinical governance guidelines
* Evidence of participation in audit and quality improvement projects, presenting data and implementing change as appropriate
* Good IT skills; use of patient and hospital databases
* Understanding of NHS management structures
* Previous involvement in clinical leadership roles

* Evidence of providing good teaching and supervision to trainees
