Braiswick Primary School is looking to appoint a Learning Support Assistant to support a reception learner with autism in a mainstream setting. The role is to start as soon as possible and for the duration of the pupil's time at Braiswick.
You will work alongside the Class Teacher, SENCo, and family to provide effective social and academic support, personal development, and guidance. You will be required to deliver a personalised engagement curriculum which will be devised by the class teacher and SENCo, and to which you can contribute to the design. You will also be required to offer support for part of lunchtime. The learner uses a digital communication aid which you will be required to use alongside them. Training will be provided for the suitable candidate for all the above requirements. You will need to be able to communicate and build good relationships with parents.
Required Skills:
1. Have a good understanding of the primary curriculum
2. A firm understanding of the Safeguarding and Welfare Requirements of working in such a role
3. Be able to take direction from a range of stakeholders and be adaptable in your approach
4. A genuine passion for working with children with additional needs and the commitment that children are at the centre of everything you do
5. Excellent communication skills with children, their families, and your colleagues
Preferred Skills:
1. Be an ABA therapy trained practitioner
2. Experience in using visuals for communication
3. Experience of supporting children with ASD in a mainstream setting
