The Department of Physics at the University of Bath is seeking to appoint up to two Lecturers or Senior Lecturers in Optical Fibres who will contribute to and expand the capabilities of the department in this research area and be a full member of the Department and of the Optical Fibres Group. You will become a part of the vibrant community of researchers in optical fibres within the Department. Research programmes revolve around collaboration, shared equipment and facilities, and shared learning, streamlining the process of getting new research programmes off the ground. The role is to establish your independent research activity, in the broader field of optical fibres in an area aligned with both University and funder priorities. The role includes management/leadership and teaching responsibilities. About you You should have an ambition to do world-leading science, within a collaborative and supportive environment. You will need to be an imaginative self-starter with excellent communication skills. You will have a collegiate approach to academia, paired with a passion for excellence, and strong interpersonal skills. You will be able to gain external funding alongside identifying and solving important research problems. You will build a research programme in the area of experimental optical fibres, complementing existing activities within the department. Additional information As well as developing an internationally leading externally-funded research programme, you will be expected to contribute to the development and delivery of taught courses at undergraduate level and to supervise doctoral students. The University of Bath is a leading research-intensive University. Optical fibres research at the University dates from the mid-1990’s, with a dedicated fibre fabrication facility having been established in 1998. Our track record of innovative and successful research has led to many highly-cited papers and to highly-rated REF impact case studies. Salary for a Senior Lecturer (Grade 9) is £56,921 rising to £65,814 per annum.
