External Examiner – MRes Health and Care – Keele University
Keele University’s School of Nursing and Midwifery is seeking to appoint an External Examiner for the following programme:
The role will include some additional standalone/elective modules at level 7:
* Research in Practice
This is an interdisciplinary-focused MRes drawing from various fields to equip students with a broad and complex understanding of health and care research.
External examiners are key in supporting the School and play an important role in maintaining the standards of the University’s awards. The role includes:
* Approval of assessment tasks
* Reviewing samples of students' work, both written and practical assessments
* Review of assessment processes and programme modifications
* Sharing expert knowledge in content delivery and assessment
* Attendance at relevant examination boards (usually online and usually up to four times a year)
* Submission of annual reports
* Professional registration with a relevant regulatory body (e.g., Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), Health Care Professions Council (HCPC), General Medical Council (GMC), Social Work England, British Association Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), Academy for Healthcare Science, General Chiropractic Council, General Dental Council, General Optical Council, General Osteopathic Council, General Pharmaceutical Council, UK Public Health Register)
* Working in a UK HEI with no formal educational links with Keele University in the last 5 years
* Relevant academic and/or professional qualifications to at least the level of the qualification being externally examined, in this case, a minimum of Masters level education
* Have sufficient academic standing, credibility, and breadth of experience within the discipline
The successful applicant would be required to commence in post February 2025, for a period of 4 years.
Previous experience as an external examiner is desirable but not essential.
We particularly encourage applications from members of black and minority ethnic communities, as this group is currently underrepresented among external examiners.
