Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Applications are invited to apply for the post of Locum Clinical Fellow in the Department of Paediatric Oncology and Haematology based at the Children’s Hospital Oxford, John Radcliffe Hospital, Headington, Oxford.
The post is for 40 hours/week, with no on-call commitments. The appointment is initially for 12 months Maternity Cover, with possible scope to extend the duration of the contract.
The successful applicant will join a team lead by 6 substantive Consultants: 3 Paediatric Haematologists and 3 Paediatric Oncologists.
Main duties of the job
* Participate in management of inpatients
* Organisation of investigations and follow-up test results
* After appropriate training:
o Perform bone marrow aspirates and trephines, and lumbar punctures with intrathecal chemotherapy
o Prescribe chemotherapy
Dependent on experience:
Laboratory role: Report films, CSF and marrows.

Qualifications
* Full GMC with licence to practice
* MBBS or equivalent
* MRCPCH/MRCP or equivalent Part 1 and 2
* Minimum of 4 years of graduate training including at least 2 years in ST2-3 or equivalent posts
* Appropriate training in paediatrics, paediatric oncology, paediatric haematology, medical oncology, or adult haematology
* APLS or equivalent course in date
* Trained to Level 3 safeguarding
* Higher medical degree MRCPath
* For Adult Haematology/Medical Oncology applicants: Previous postgraduate experience in paediatrics
Experience
* Comprehensive experience and training in paediatric care or adult haematology
* Evidence of ability to manage complex clinical problems with appropriate support
* Comprehensive experience and training in paediatric malignant and benign haematology and paediatric oncology at tertiary level
* Laboratory training in haematology
* Experience in management of haemophilia
Skills
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
* Evidence of work behaviour that demonstrates OUH NHS foundation Trust values of compassionate excellence
* Effective administrative and time management skills.
* Evidence of significant contribution to successful teamwork
