The Royal School for the Blind, Liverpool offers educational placements for children and young people with visual impairments and moderate to severe learning disabilities. Placements are for both day and residential children and young people. It is the aim of the school to provide the highest educational and care opportunities for all our children and young people. The role of a teaching assistant is that of key worker, with the teacher, for a designated group of children/young persons in a classroom environment. The ages of the young people range from 2 - 19 years. they will be training to be able to achieve these tasks. They will also be trained in some medical interventions. Once they are 70% complete on their apprenticeship, if we have any TA positions come up, they can apply for them. Our apprenticeship lasts a maximum of 18 months and the training they receive in our school stands them in good stead to gain employment in other schoold due to the extra raining and skills we develop our apprenticeships in.
