Recruiter: Natasha About this client/child: Tom, 6, lives with his mum, dad, and two cats. He loves bouncing on his trampoline, climbing trees, and playing with sand. He is interested in numbers and letters and enjoys jigsaw puzzles when he's in the mood. He also loves playgrounds, especially the swings and slides. He enjoys swimming and looks forward to trips to Costa for a biscuit and Zizzi for a pizza. He has been diagnosed with Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC), Global Development Delay, and is non-verbal. He uses an iPad-based AAC communication device, which he has been learning to navigate and will need continued support to develop his skills further. Tom can feel overwhelmed when people are constantly in his space and talking, or when there is too much engagement in activities. At times, he experiences periods of dysregulation, during which he may bang his head against the wall as a way of expressing overstimulation. Providing a calm and structured environment helps him feel more at ease. Tom requires assistance with all aspects of his personal care, including toileting, bathing, dressing, brushing his teeth, and encouragement to eat. Overview of role: Tom and his family are looking for a dedicated live-in SEN Nanny/Manny to support his ongoing learning and development. This is a great opportunity for an experienced professional to build trust with Tom, starting by shadowing his parents. Tom requires close supervision, as he may attempt to climb fences or run off in parks. He also enjoys sensory feedback from smashing glasses/mugs, so these items must be kept out of reach. The role includes school pick-ups, outdoor play, and visits to SEN-friendly soft play during term time, with more activities like swimming and outings during holidays. The family seek a long-term commitment (minimum two years) for consistency in Tom’s development. In the future, the Nanny/Manny may also provide occasional proxy parenting and babysitting and join the family on an annual UK holiday. Who this job would suit: This role is ideal for a candidate with experience supporting young people on the autistic spectrum and with learning disabilities. The successful applicant will be calm, confident, and energetic, with a positive attitude towards engaging in activities like bouncing on a trampoline with Tom. Additionally, they should possess the skills to support Tom through periods of dysregulation in a compassionate and effective manner. What’s great about this job: Tom and his family will be a pleasure to work with. They are approachable and highly value teamwork, creating a supportive and fulfilling work environment. Additionally, training will be provided by Tom's speech therapist to assist in using his AAC device. Who is recruiting for this role?
